Top 5 Purchases for Organization and Productivity

As digital and remote life continues, it has become increasingly important to step up my home office to be sure I can stay organized, focused and productive. There is much research about how having a tidy desk space lends itself to being more focused and organized. Makes sense; reduced clutter on the desk minimizes distraction and helps you pay attention to the task at hand. Spurred on by the purchase of my laptop, sleek and clean in itself, I have sought to make my entire home office space a zenlike place of organization. Hence, here are my top 5 purchases for organization and productivity.

The new laptop I bought in July has to be the top and best purchase I’ve made this year. As we explained in our video, New Laptops for the Digi Crew, it has a lot of really superb features.
- I especially appreciate its long battery life; it can run for about 12 hours with battery save mode enabled.
- It’s super sleek and lightweight and easy to travel with
- It’s quick and responsive when surfing the web or editing photos and documents.
- The fingerprint scan feature blows my mind each time I use it…how does it DO that? (I know, I’m such a boomer!)
- Truly a great value for this price point – about $800.
The endless tangling of headphone wires finally did me in and I broke down and bought wireless earbuds in March. FREEDOM! How cool are these things? I can listen to music or podcasts and freely walk around the house or yard, as long as my phone is fairly nearby. Of course they come with me on longer walks with my phone tucked in a nearby pocket.
- They’re equipped with noise cancelling technology and great stereo sound quality.
- They have a pretty good battery life (about 6 hours according to specs)
- Pairs very easily with my Bluetooth enabled devices and connects quickly
- It’s great being untethered and untangled!
For ergonomic health and aesthetic reasons, I purchased a set of tempered glass monitor/laptops stands.
- Because they are clear, it gives my desk a nice clean look.
- They have adjustable legs so that if I wanted to have the back higher than the front to rest a laptop on, that can be accomplished easily. I was using it for that purpose, until I recently moved my office space and set up two 27 inch monitors.
- In the space underneath, I keep my docking station and wireless speaker out of the way.
- Best thing about these is the height they raise the monitors to; a perfect eye level for me so there is no strain on my neck. Self care!
Keeping in the spirit of clean aesthetics, I purchased a few inexpensive components for a cable management system for my desk.
- J Channel Cable Raceway with the two sided tape neatly contains all of the power cords and cables underneath my desk.
- To streamline cords that did go through the channel, I purchased self adhesive clips that are very versatile and allow me to clip the cords close to the legs of the desk so that unwieldy cords are not hanging everywhere.
Since I have finally moved my home office space to my own area, I can take control of the lighting over the monitors. Lighting is so important, not only for mood, but to reduce eye fatigue.
- I purchased an LED Desk lamp with multiple lighting modes and auto light sensing ability.
- Clamps easily to the back of the desk and arches over top of the monitors and directs light at just the right angle to eliminate glare and eye strain.
- The 31.5 inch width spans my monitors quite nicely as it illuminates in either a soft, warm light or a brighter LED light.
Looking forward to installing minimalistic shelving on the walls and possibly a peg board to further reduce anything on my desk except the keyboard and mouse and further up by organization and productivity game.
