Church christmas ideas

Does it feel like this Christmas is a strange one? We’re not quite in the same circumstances as Christmas 2020, but there are still safety protocols in play and some folks may feel less comfortable in-person. Here are over a dozen Christmas Ideas for your community to enjoy in-person or online in 2021!

  1. Poll people for the best day/time for Christmas services
    • Instagram stories
    • Google form
    • Ask in the neighborhood group
    • There may be football games or community events or other activities that you aren’t even thinking about. Maybe some people would go if they could make it, especially if they had some buy in.
  2. Have a brainstorming session
    • Ask a few people for 1 hour of time, no commitment beyond that
    • Keep a list with you for future years
  3. Online Choir, videos either separate or together
  4. Hot Chocolate
    • In person or online.
    • If online, potentially make some goodie bags of hot cocoa and cookies available for pick up and sharing.
  5. Online Christmas Party
    • YouTube some games – teachers are ON this.
    • Pictionary song version, mute while singing, try different treats
    • Christmas movie streaming afterward together
    • Enjoy your hot cocoa/cookies together!
  6. Photo booth/background
    • Ask a volunteer or two (or more) to create it.
  7. Have a community Christmas dinner (not on Christmas)
  8. Christmas Eve Eve
    • Candlelight, communion, low key, another option for worship… not that you need to add MORE services, but maybe switch one out in favor of another night that week.
  9. Christmas cookie bake off
    • Have members drop off their favorite batch of cookies before Christmas
    • Form a taste testing committee and announce the winners live online (goes well with hot chocolate!)
    • Donate the remainder to food pantry or families in need in your community
  10. Go A Caroling
    • Fun outdoor activity; have a caravan of cars go caroling to homes/developments in your area or older folks that haven’t been out in awhile
    • Also goes well with hot chocolate before or after meeting from the starting point.
  11. Make two or more Christmas crafts as a group activity over zoom.
    • Hang one on the church’s Christmas tree
    • Hang the other on your home tree
  12. If your town is having a Tree lighting, stream it live from your church social media account!

Enjoy!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
