But for today’s answer to “One Thing I wish Churches knew about Direct Messages?”

I wish they realized that to some people, DM’s (Direct Messages) are going to be the most comfortable place to communicate.

While it’s funny to joke that church leaders don’t even know DM’s exist, some don’t! And most others do not use them.

They have email and phone calls and text messages and comments and Google forms and SO many other avenues for people to communicate with them – why would they want to add another route?

Well, because those who are more comfortable remaining ON platforms like Instagram and Facebook may feel it’s easier and more acceptable for them to reach out in a quick direct message. They are used to chatting here and may feel like it is their territory. It’s safe.

So DM’s may feel new or like a nuisance to you, but social media isn’t always about you and what you prefer – if you are trying to reach your people, you need to think about how THEY use social media and adjust accordingly.

If features like DM’s seem waaay over your head and you feel overwhelmed when thinking about the various social media platforms and options out there, then you need to check out our Digital Ministry Training Hub where we walk with you step by step and teach you how to optimize your church’s digital communications to reach your people effectively through all channels, like websites, videos, and social media.
